Unq, Lindy & Merlin:

A week I will never forget -- forever embedded in my psyche.

A belated thank you from the depth of my soul for enabling my independence which became my vow 5 yrs ago when I was cast on the street & scorned upon repeatedly in my desperate attempts to reenter the corporate world. Life is ironic. Now these same companies besieges me but too late as I shall turn my back permanently upon completion of current project at my benefactor in a few months. Unq, congrats & I look forward to be joining you soon.

My investment style is buy on dips & never chase a runaway train. I missed the Q train in Feb and dismayly watched it rolling in March and would have waved the babyG byebye for good if I hadn't stumbled upon this thread in my aimless & frantic search for the truth. I bought equal positions in my margin account & IRA account at the same time Lindy did. Because of this thread, I felt only glee & confidence on subsequent dips & bought more. Total margin account size was 1/3 that of IRA then.

I started to trade 100 IRA shares Q at a time, very very careful to buy back by the end of the day. I became daytrader just for the thrill & soon Q was not volatile enough. I started trading all of my IRA Q & 1 day Ms Market took them all away. I finally managed to buy back all in the recent dip to 160 in core leaps & continued to trade on the side. Meanwhile, I left my margin account alone except to build cash by selling near-month in-the-money puts on every major dips. Today, my margin account is the same size as my IRA account.

So the lesson is: LTB&H Gorillas! Alas, unlike Poet (congrats & happy 4u!), I have become an incorrigible trader. Besides, writing puts in IRA is illegal so how am I gonna add cash? The solution is to become a better trader;). Unqle Franq, with your permission I would like to start a G&K traders thread. It will focus on G&K's using stochasis etc, but will also alert if WMT, AMGN, etc superbrand hits 70% 52wk-hi. You will be able to re-direct ot trading related discussions there as more & more lurkers emerge from the jungle. A way to keep this a serene G&K hunter's sacred ground. Unq, please take your time responding as I won't have time to start the new thread until my corporate umbilical cord is cut for good. I will respect your decision/suggestions anywhich way.

Let me take this opportunity to thank everyone who has kindly contributed from post #1 to here & forevermore into post#(infinity). I have read them all. May all your dreams come true & the truth be revealed.

Sincerely,
Q-911

(sorry about the clutter, but testimonials openly confirm the worth of this Fountain Of Truth & shall encourage future neophytes to take that 1st correct step -- not merely sipping from the FOT but to gulp with insatiable thirst & grown into a gorilla hunter feeding the FOT with continuous streams of G&K wisdom)

Hello Unq,

I just got the new issue of Red Herring in and there are at least 2 articles of interest to all of our thread members:

(1) Excellent article on Digital Cinema called Star Wars Really Bytes. It covers CineComm extensively. They have an interesting idea where would circumvent the current system where the theatres pay the studios for the right to show their movies with a pay per view setup that has both the theatres and the studios paying for each showing and CineComm handles the movie's encryption, compression and digital distribution. It is a way that the individual theatres would not have to foot the bill for replacing all of their projectors for the new digital ones.

(2) There is also an extended article on Electronic Program Guides. In general they talked a bit about combining of electronic commerce with television and predicts that by 2004 interactive TV, including program guides, enhanced broadcasts, and TV based browsing would generate $11 billion in advertising and $7 billion in commercial transactions in the US alone. They cover EPG's pretty well and mentioned that currently most cable and satellite owners do not include advertisements in their EPG's but that Gemstar will be changing that by year's end. GMST will introduce advertising into it's interactive program guides at that time. The potential for adding significant advertising revenues from the EPG's were mentioned several times.

All in all a very good issue. But when isn't it with Red Herring.

Later,

Squire J
