Hi, thanks for the article. I didn't really understand your comment, I assume you comparison is:

now:
Britain/France/Germany try to talk America into appeasing Russia

like then:
Western Allies appeased Germany.

Hey, that's the wrong picture. Nobody wants the US to appease Russia. They are feeling like a loving girl left alone by their silly macho boy friend turning back to his autistic egomania. Now, it seems, the U.S. foreign political wizards are trying to gain more and more freedom to bludgeon their friends, and do everything they can to be imagined as the friend no one likes to have.
At least our politicos feel so. And, no surprise, are beginning to play the adversary Russian card ('go with us America, or you will have to fear the Russian power again ...').
I hope Americans still have ears to listen (I am not so sure) and won't forget that anti-ballistic missile systems are quite easy to be overcome even by average technical means. Wasn't the high rate of Yugoslaw deception of high-tech missiles roof enough?
But it is not so sure, with all the pseudo-scientific hype around, people are believing Start-Trek more than their own experience, and scientists are playing the same game in hope for more high-tech funding.

Another historical parallel that you could draw is the never-sleeping British assertion that WWII would never have started if the Americans had supported the British in their post-WWI belief in the league of Nations, and the present neglect of UN finances by the U.S.

Still this potential food for anti-Americanism is not public, but insider knowledge, so let's hope it will never need to be taken to the streets ... as we all are basically pro-Americans that were not daring enough to emigrate to the US yet !

Regards MNI.
