Rascal, If Covad is offering DSL in your area they are reselling the RBOC's DSL loop. Covad is targeting the SOHO and small business market and that is reflective in the pricing for their services. General price of ADSL for consumers/home users from most BOC's(including ISP charges)is around $40 - $50 /month. The fact that Covad is offering service in your geographic location is a direct result of your RBOC's ability to deliver the DSL loop....which Covad is reselling. If you're interested in consumer DSL service, I suggest calling your RBOC's ISP division directly and avoid the DSL CLEC's. -Tom everything inaccurate. covad is not reselling rbocs services. they have their own dslams (diamond lane) and provide their own dsl service. Phone companies use old and weak alcatel and fuijutsu dslams. They do however use local telephone companies wires, but they attach that to their own dslams. Covad's dsl service is far superior than the phone companies. on their sdls lines they have a 70% CIR (commited information rate) where they guarantee 70% of the speed they quote you (northpoint is 98%). the phone companies don't guarantee anything! another thing, the phone companies split your line (that cuts the bandwith in half), where covad brings a whole different line and give you a %100 point to point connection. also, covad's speeds are constant, where the phone companies are "burstable". not good!! everything imo.
