Grubbing = Getting an interesting or significant post number, be it an ordinal intra-thread number or a global reply number. There are many who grab minor grubs here and there, such as post #1984 in the "Grubber's Trophy Case" thread, palindrome grubs, poker hands, and other lesser ones.

nokomis,
There is a group of SI members that waste their time looking for message numbers that they think are meaningful or pretty or something. The Grubbwatch figure is the total number of messages on SI. Occasionally, one of these meaningful numbers comes up, like 1000000, 2000000, 3000000...10000000, 11111111, 12345678.
Sometimes they will even go for the message number on a specific thread. Here is one example of a crazy yahoo going for 100,000 on the DELL thread.
#reply-7842679

These grubbers should be scorned, not worshipped like demigods as some are prone to do.
JXM

There are many who get minor grubs all over the site. Then there's David Lawrence

Don't let JXM fool ya. He takes his grubbing as seriously as the next guy. He's just jealous of gems like #reply-4000000 or, one that was once near and dear to SI Bob's heart (note the thread on which it appeared) #reply-5555555.

Too funny, Bob. I'm sure you could fill the book yourself with everything you know. Of course I know there are many things you know that you don't feel like sharing. Most of these people have enough ideas of their own without you repeating used tried and true ones. ROFL

I humbly bow (bow humbly?) in your general direction.

(Nice work on the 2112 grub. I'm also a Rush fan, especially the "classics" like 2112, Caress of Steel, and A Farewell to Kings.)
