I believe MSFT and IBM are dead money for a while. IBM and MSFT have great potential but that potential will not be realized until further news comes out. For IBM, that's this quarter's conference call in Jan. For MSFT, it's months away and you won't know when it's going to happen.

I don't like either for parking my money.

IBM beat itself down. Apparently, a lot of its service contracts are Y2K specific and a lot of the growth in big iron shipments in the early part of the year was to get the big iron into place before the end of the year. So a lot of their growth rate has suddenly been rendered transitory.
Then Gerstner takes a dump on his own stock by warning about future growth and revenue.( Meanwhile, planning to buyback IBM stock at a discount) Thus, the stock goes down!

Meantime, they are loosing money on little iron.
