Excite@Home Adds Capacity
Redwood City, Calif. -- Cable-modem-service provider Excite@Home Corp. said it boosted capacity in its San Francisco Bay-area market to address customer complaints about slow data speeds.

The company added 10 central processing units, two storage-disk arrays and five mail servers to the area's regional data center.

Excite@Home president of subscriber networks Adam Grosser said the company also added more cable-modem-termination systems to specific neighborhoods in order to reduce the number of households per CMTS, increasing capacity in those areas.

Grosser added that the company has an ongoing upgrade process to boost capacity ahead of growing subscriber demand, although in some markets, like the Bay area, demand unexpectedly outstripped capacity.
