Digital Island Announces Strategic Advisory Council of Industry Luminaries
Experts on e-Business, Security and Networking Will Advise Digital Island on Trends and Solutions for Global e-Network Services
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 8, 1999-- Digital Island, Inc. (NASDAQ: ISLD - news), a leading provider of network services for globalizing e-Business applications, announced today the formation of a Strategic Advisory Council of industry luminaries to advise the company on trends and solutions for global e-Network services.
The members of Digital Island's Strategic Advisory Council are:

Ms. Chrapaty invented the technology solutions used by E*TRADE. Prior to joining E*TRADE, she served as Chief Information Officer and Chief Technical Officer of the National Basketball Association. Ms. Chrapaty has also served as Director, Internal Systems Consulting, at Bertelsmann C.I.S., and with EMI Records Group. Her previous experience with financial organizations includes the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and Chase Econometric/IDC.
Raman Khanna is Chief Information Officer at Stanford University. In his current role, he is responsible for providing computing and communication services for more than 30,000 users. Mr. Khanna is a nationally recognized authority on data communications, distributed computing and enterprise management systems. He is the contributing editor of four technical books on data communications and client/sever computing, and lectures and consults extensively. Mr. Khanna also serves on the advisory board of Sun Microsystems, Dell Computers and other high-tech companies.
Dr. Rob Kolstad was President of Berkeley Software Design, Inc. for half a decade before joining the SANS Institute, where he now serves as Program Manager. Prior to Berkeley Software Design, he was a staff engineer at Sun Microsystems' Rocky Mountain Technology Center where he led the development of Sun's Backup Copilot product. Dr. Kolstad is a former secretary of the USENIX Board of Directors and founded the USENIX LISA conference series. He has served as conference chair and a keynote speaker around the world. Dr. Kolstad coaches the USA Computing Olympiad programming team.
Don Listwin is Executive Vice President of Cisco Systems. He is responsible for Cisco's New World business strategy and leads the Service Provider and Consumer Lines of Business as well as Corporate Marketing and the Applications Technology Group. In developing Cisco's New World Internet business strategy, Mr. Listwin created the concept of the Internet ecosystem, a new business model for defining success in the Internet Economy.
William Maggs is Chief Network Officer at Inktomi, where he serves as CTO of the Network Products business unit. He develops strategy and technological direction for Inktomi's array of network infrastructure software, including Traffic Server. Previously he was a senior engineer and architect in the Internet Engineering division of MCI, helping to build MCI's commercial and next-generation IP networks and the services that run on them.
Paul Saffo is Director and Roy Amara Fellow at the Institute of the Future, a 30-year-old foundation that provides strategic planning and forecasting services to major corporations and government agencies. He is a technology forecaster, studying long-term information-technology trends and their impact on business and society. His essays have appeared in The Harvard Business Review, Wired Magazine, The Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, Fortune Magazine and others. Mr. Saffo also serves on the AT&T Technology Advisory Board, The World Economic Forum Global Issues Group, and the Stanford Law School Advisory Council on Science, Technology and Society.
