Olu: As I understand it MSFT did nothing but add hooks into the MSFT O/S so that its implementation of the core code would allow for superior performance. There is no client for Java that is universal and every application must be tailored to the platform. This is why I left the Mac as there was no streaming financial data software available for the Mac. The problem lies in the fact that others would not make java work as well wit their platfforms as MSFT did. Again MSFT being tarred and feathered for doing the job better. JFD

Well, I don't consider myself a MSFT sympathizer and I don't think MSFT tried or is trying to "hijack Java?"

What I continue to think on the issue follows:

Microsoft wakes up to Java Software firm unveils new Javatools which could further challenge Sun
"Clearly, the direction of Java is being driven by Microsoft," said software analyst Rick Sherlund of Goldman Sachs. Microsoft, explained Sherlund, already creates many of the applications used by developers and, by extension, leaves its imprint on many languages. "To Microsoft, Java is just another language, like C++," he added.
