Message to Jill, Poet, Straight Life, UnQ & thread:

Holy Cow......from testimonials and teary eyes on Friday, to the most serious and adverse and provocative post from Poet in the life of this thread here on Sunday morning.

My thoughts, as senior thread member.

1. straight life posed a reasonable request to limit testimonials.
2. the thread, in general, has chosen to celebrate the fruits of ours shared knowledge, and success therefrom this past week. We, the thread, especially on weekends, have a habit of getting OT, and having more informality. That is the nature of this thread since I have followed it from March. Personally, I think the banter and fun is to be expected after this past week.
3. Poet, you responded to Straight Life clearly and a little aggressively; this could have been done by PM. I agreed with most of your post, but disliked the "kicking ass" part. I thought it unnecessary, and Yahoo-like, and provocative. JMHO.
4. Poet, I fully enjoyed your testimonial and story, as did so many.
5. Poet, I think your post this AM which was a deliberate effort to humble Unc was WAY excessive, and hurts the thread. JMHO.
6. I don't know about the PMs, and hope not to offend recipients of these because I don't have all the facts, but
nevertheless.........may I respectfully encourage my fellow threadsters....:

Enough! Enough! Enough! This is a classic case of escalation, and not necessary. Let it go.

The G & K thread, started by Uncle Frank, is the best because:
1. of the quality of the discussion, and
2. of the quality of the community; no flaming, no hard feelings, usually no obscenities or provocative gestures.

Let's keep it that way.
As for me, JMHO, I respect what Uncle Frank has accomplished, and the very great time he and other Senior members have put in to make this a great thread. IMHO, I believe and respect the prerogative they deserve for the time they have invested. I think that the thread has benefitted from Unc's usually skillful and diplomatic guidance; I think that with ever increasing numbers of threadmates, a little policing now and then is reasonable. JMHO.

I support Uncle's efforts.
I think there has been some over-reaction here.
Let's move on.

Respectfully,
Apollo

Poet amd Jill,

please don't become overly irate over the exchange you describe. Personally, I didn't think either of your comments were way out of line but Frank simply took the opportunity to try to keep the whole thread focused. He has since made quite a good public apology. We are still all human and everyone here has generally been extremely supportive of each other. No big deal.

This has been a great thread and you both have made outstanding contributions. Don't sweat the small stuff.

Regards,

Len

Poet and Jill,
This thread has been the greatest thing that has happened in my investing life and a shining exception to the acrimony and rudeness found on most other threads. Its success is due to the generosity and hard work of a number of people...and to their civility.

As an investor, I am interested ONLY in exchanging the best financial information and making the most money possible. So far, that help has come from people like Frank, Mike, Lindy, Voltaire, N.Y. Stew and many others. It is their welcoming spirit that has helped make this thread what it is for me and I know for many others, both men and women.

It takes much effort and time to build something as positive and helpful as this thread. It takes almost no time or effort at all to tear it down. There is no room here for a divisive spirit. Keeping such a thread on an even keel is an art, one at which Frank has excelled. I couldn't do the job. Judging by your posts, you couldn't either.

Disputes or disagreements should be settled, by and large, through private messages. Escalating a disagreement won't make any of us rich. And that's all I am here for. Please move on now.

Anna

Poet and Jill, you may have noticed that I was the first to disagree with straightlife. I did it in three sentences, as I recall. I meant to do it by PM, but messed up the post.

Poet's response was, imo, excessive and a near flame. Certainly flammable. Poet's "kick ass" sign off was, obviously, a negative, aggressive, emotition-filled adjective that, simply, was unnecessary.

I believe that we have been able to avoid negative emotion on this thread, until now, with an ethic of restraint, PMs, or an occasional cold shoulder to those who simply refuse to be civil and kind on this thread.

Uncle Frank has worked hard to maintain the decorum and ethics of this thread. He has problably made a number of people angry via PMs for his rebukes. This is a guess by me, of course. The fact that the anger did NOT turn into public flames says a lot about Frank's manners and methods.

I, for one, believe that Uncle Frank has apologized openly and sincerely, but that doesn't seem to be enough for Poet and Jill. He was right to apologize, but he was also right to object to the "kick ass" remark. Tell me if I am wrong, Poet and Jill.

I hope Frank will step out of the penalty box. I also hope that Poet will take the criticism about the kick ass remark to heart and move on with us. As for Frank using the word "girls", well I don't mind being called being included as one of the "boys" here, so I can't relate to the issue. Work it out or at least put the term in context.

BTW, piling on Frank is very inappropriate and subtracts from all the positive testimonials.

Jerry

Poet and Jill..And in the midst of their greatest success they turned to bickering among themselves--what a sad commentary. Needless to say, none among us is perfect---isn't that refreshing. I have been awed by how well FranQ keeps this thread running on civil and friendly terms. How does he do it--well it is because of the great respect he has earned from most of us. Clearly you too have this respect or else you wouldn't have reacted so strongly to his scold. OK, we may not always totally agree with him on matters of protocol, but we do respect the success of the thread and most of us agree that much of this success is due to the effort by FranQ to keep things running well.

Testimonials or enthusiasm are great--after all life would be less than full if we took no time to celebrate our successes and to agonize over our defeats. Recognize though that the analytical types on the thread require a lot shorter celebration to make them happy than do the talky extravert types.

Time to let it go and move on to more positive and productive agendas.
Best regards
JohnG
