The browser default thing is much to do about nothing. My preferred browser is Netscape 4.7. However, I have explorer installed as the default browser. I had Netscape installed as the default browser for a while but it made updating Win98 slightly more inconvenient so I changed the default to explorer. I almost never use explorer except when updating win98 or for a web page that works better with explorer. In fact, I have had Netscape and explorer browser windows opened simultaneously without any problems on many occasions. I suspect that the Netscape browser share is higher than what is reported. Everyone has explorer because it comes with the operating system. Most people have explorer installed as the default. I suspect that a very large proportion of those that have explorer installed as the default actually use Netscape as their preferred browser. If the numbers are tabulated based on what is installed as the default browser the numbers probably falsely report the true percentage of what browser is actually used. It does take extra effort to download and install the Netscape browser but if you don't like explorer or prefer Netscape there is no signifigant barrier, technical or otherwise, that prevents you from installing or using Netscape. This has been the case for me since Win95. No big deal.

Steve

I have. I paid too much for Windows and it crashes every day. And I had a hell of a time switching from IE to the Netscape browser.

I've got both on a Win98 machine and both on a WinNT machine and they both work fine, except that Netscape 4.6 is a real loser compared to IE 5.0. No effort required at all.

Besides, if you hate Windows and IE so much then wipe your drive and install Linux with Netscape.

slott,
Re: I paid too much for Windows and it crashes every day. And I had a hell of a time switching from IE to the Netscape browser

You have problems, and found a scapegoat.
Meanwhile you are ready to punish yourself "by walking backwards" and installing Netscape. Install Linus too while at it, and in 6 months you may have it up and running. We hope that you will be man enough to come back and tell us that it didn't solve anything.

A cheaper solution may be new equipment from Dell,

regards....humble carl

Perhaps your problems are an indication of your technical inability?

I have both IE and NSCP browser on my machine and don't have a problem running them alone or at the same time.

In the past I have had both MS OS and Unix on my machine. I didn't have problems. I think you draw too much from your N=1

Perhaps you need to hire someone to come and configure your machine? Perhaps you should buy a Mac? Better yet you can download Linux for free or pay Red Hat for a supported version. See, you do have choices.
