LOL - I'm surprised you didn't characterize Seattle as an "intergalactic city"!

Seattle reminds me of Austin a little. Needs to grow up as far as the international business climate is concerned.

From the little I know, there used to be a lot of pollution in the rivers and the air from the steel mills. They've cleaned
up both (no steel mills does wonders for the environment ;)) and diversified the economy. They've created new parks,
such as at the confluence of the two major rivers.

This problem was true many years ago. It is no longer the case as you mentioned. Actually, Pittsburgh is a beautiful city.

It is still a working class town as I understand it, but probably less so than it once was.

There are more service oriented companys in Pittsburgh now. Heavy industry is decreasing. I believe a "regional City" might be a good description. I can't comment on Seattle since I have never been there.
