Doug, this might be interesting ! Have a look.....$$$$$$$ SCUR has taken off tomorrow afternoon or Wednesday => afterburner stage 1 I guess SCUR unveils something interesting at the "AEA CLASSIC" and after the recent runup most of the attending 1,300 institutional investors will look very close at SCUR ïs presentation. This could be a real firework ! Last year after the Conference SCUR jumped from 10 to 29 Best regards Charly ------------------ The AEA Classic 08-Nov-99 02:41 ET This week, the grandfather of all technology investment conferences, the AEA Classic, is being held in San Diego. The conference, sponsored by the American Electronics Association, has been held every year since 1970. Briefing.com will be attending the AEA Classic, looking for investment opportunities. A Unique Conference The AEA Classic is different from all other investment conferences is one key aspect: it isn't sponsored by an investment bank. While investment banks do invite companies that are not clients of the bank, they generally don't invite companies that do not have analyst coverage, or aren't potential investment bank clients. At the AEA conference, any member of the AEA can make their case for investor support. More than 400 companies are presenting, with over 1,300 institutional investors attending. The conference is divided into three sessions, based on the size of the company. Companies with market capitalizations or revenues in excess of $250 million present in Session 1. Companies with market caps or revenues between $100 million and $250 million present in Session 2. Companies below $100 million in both revenue or market cap present in Session 3. There is no minimum revenue or market capitalization requirement. AEA Format The format of the AEA conference is very different from other conferences. The conference is being held at the Sheraton Harbor Island Hotel and the Westin Harbor Island Hotel in San Diego. The Sheraton is the conference headquarters, but most of the presentations take place in the Westin Hotel. In the Westin, the AEA takes over the entire hotel, and occupies every room on all nine floors. The hotel rooms are emptied of their beds and mattresses, and folding chairs are installed. A projection screen blocks the picture windows that would otherwise look out over the bay or marina. Each company makes their presentation during the morning or afternoon time slots, but they repeat the presentation every hour. Session 1 companies give the same presentation a total of 11 times. Session 2 and 3 companies give their presentations 8 times. Presentations are given every hour, even if only one attendee shows up. This allows the money managers to make their own arrangements, and avoids the common conference problem of triage between two presentations in the time slot. The structure of the AEA Classic puts a heavy burden on the presenting companies, but it gives them maximum exposure to institutional investors. Last Fall's Conference The AEA Classic is one of our favorite investment conferences. Last year, the following companies first came to our attention, as a result of the AEA conference: Cree Research (CREE), Aware (AWRE), and New Era of Networks (NEON), all of which rose sharply soon after the conference. In fact, with Aware and New Era of Networks, at least, if you had sold them at the H&Q conference, you would have more than tripled your money in six months, and have avoided the summer downturn in both stocks. -------------------- see also www3.techstocks.com
