i think whether voltaire was right or wrong depends on your perspective. did he lose 50k, YES. but he has a 3 million dollar position. so one can say he SPENT 50k to preserve that 3m position. personaly, when i look back at how mr. market took out it's ghinzu knife and sliced off more then half my portfolio in one swipe on a missed earnings report. i say, would i have sold calls if they were available to insure my position, you bet you're you know what i would have. voltaire, good advice, but not for everybody.
