Voltaire... I have no illusion that I'll be able to have any effect on your behavior but I sure do hope to discredit you so that the less wary don't fall prey to your clueless advice. I wasn't joking. I really wonder how many sold calls to hedge their stock not understanding that if Q gapped down 30-40% they just weren't protected, as TTamm suggested? And I wonder how many of those same people are still sitting on those calls they sold praying that the stock falls back? This is the problem: 100cfm just posted this. It's wrong, and you were too, and you still don't know it.And if you think about it a bit, maybe a lot of that other stuff you've been posting is wrong too? i think whether voltaire was right or wrong depends on your perspective. did he lose 50k, YES. but he has a 3 million dollar position. so one can say he SPENT 50k to preserve that 3m position. personaly, when i look back at how mr. market took out it's ghinzu knife and sliced off more then half my portfolio in one swipe on a missed earnings report. i say, would i have sold calls if they were available to insure my position, you bet you're you know what i would have. voltaire, good advice, but not for everybody Now how would covered calls have protected you cfm, and I doubt very much that 50k will protect a 3 mil position? ANd this isn't the perfect perspective of 20/20 hindsight. My personal friend Kincade, a real flesh and bones market maker, the kind that you've been ranting about, been "inside the mind of" for months, tried to warn you before the fact. But no, you're so damned smart that you just dismissed him of the cuff, sent him "back to his Daddy" if I recall correctly. Hopefully somebody headed his warning. The problem with guys like you is that you really think you are smarter than everbody else and you don't even understand when you don't understand. I don't know if it's because you've been fortunate enough to make lots of money riding the coattails of guys like MDell and IJAcobs or where it comes from and frankly I don't care. The fact that you actually believe that Irwin Jacobs would waste his time and my money reading this thread and your posts in particular is proof beyond a shadow of a doubt of your deluded state. That your tomes so full of pomp and circumstance have elicited the bowing and scraping following that they have is a mystery to me but I can assure you that I am not alone in my condemnation of your psycho-logical, conspiratorial explanation of it all. Just because you've made some good market calls, or bad for that matter, proves nothing. And don't think for a moment that I'm jealous of your spectacular portfolio and that therein lies the source of my venom. I've been around on this thread for a long time so even you might be able to calculate what that might portend. So Voltaire, what do you really know that might be really useful? What can you tell us about QCOM, which is the one interest we really all have in common here? My favorite question is how will we know if QCOM loses it's ASIC lead, how will we know early enough to protect ourselves when we need to protect ourselves. Got any ideas on that one? DMG
