Nasdaq no longer requires firm To use the "f" in their symbol to designate foreign status. This rule was changed not too long ago. It is now up to each firm to decide which way they would like to print the Symbol.
A lot of canadian firms removed the "F" when the rule changed this year ex Pc Docs changed to DOCS and Corel changed To CORL
I would not expect any new Nasdaq firms to use the "F" anymore , for the reasons you stated in your post , namely it is a negative in the eyes of US investors.
