Pending splits are already known to the market, and therefore are already factored in by the buyers and sellers. This should already be reflected in the stock. That great rise in the last three weeks is a combination of the earnings announcement and the split announcement.

As we all know, splits have no real effect on evaluation, but have a very real psychological effect. After the stock splits it will look cheap to people who passed up buying it in the hundreds. The run-up on the announcement of the split is people anticipating those other people.

So I have to disagree with you that the pending 4:1 split in QCOM will propel it higher. That's already happened. As for the HDR conference, it depends on what is said. If they make a good presentation, or announce good news of some kind, or give positive guidance it very well could sen the stock higher.

The kind of euphoria we're seeing in JDSU and QCOM is infectious, and could well propel these stocks above their historical channels. I have not yet taken any action on QCOM, as it only hit the top of the channel late Friday. I'll be watching the open Monday. If it opens higher I won't be selling.
