Tom,

It looks like the XAU is in a "damned if it does, damned if it doesn't" mode.

Should gold go up... the XAU will fall because of the exposed hedge positions miners have.

Should gold go down, people will fall out of love with the miners once again...

If I was a conspiratorialist, I would almost believe that this is exactly what some of them CBs wanted to have happen to Gold.

The hedged miners are now in the pocket of the financial institutions who are rolling over their credit lines and waiving margin calls.
