Lu--Re (this is no undiscovered gem) This is where viewpoints may differ. Gemstar still seems to be somewhat undiscovered, as evidenced by the relative lack of posts--contrast with Qualcomm, which was running 30 to 50 posts per day BEFORE it started its runup (There are now several active Q threads, and 200 or so daily posts). Also, don't look at past earnings as a guide for a reasonable PE. What are their future earnings? And how sure are those earnings? And how does that relate to price? Gorilla Gamers believe that Gemstar may be establishing itself as the Gorilla in its field, and that revenues and earnings are about to explode. Related to that viewpoint--Gemstar is one way to play the internet. And it actually makes money! How many internet plays can actually say that?

Further evidence that G is still undiscovered is that there has been no great runup since the TVGuide deal. This was a very significant event, which will have a great longterm effect.

One of my favorite stories abut this company is that Henry Yuen actually had the cojones to walk into The New York Times and get them to list his VCR+ numbers--when not a single manufacturer was producing a machine with his technology inside. That's a man who can get things done!

My advice (I know you've been waiting for this) is to be quite circumspect in shorting this stock. Support will continue to firm up at higher and higher levels, and there is real risk (to the shorter) of a dramatic runup.

Good luck, and best,
JS

Re: "Smart money started running out in beginning of October."

How did you come to this conclusion?

We have a slight imbalance on Island, Luke.

Bid 88, Ask 93.

Now about those puts...

uf

btw, don't be afraid to shift strategies in a rising market. I have a bunch of November puts on Cisco that I bought expecting a top line disappointment. I'll sell them tomorrow and go long.
