I think you missed his point - my interpretation is that he was claiming that it was in his self interest to purchase AMD products because that would ensure long term low costs since it helped to keep competition alive in the CPU marketplace. Competition forces Intel (and its competition) to be their best in terms of price and performance. In the absence of competition, you get shoddy goods at high prices (as happened under communism)
