Anybody that has followed technology in the bay area knows this story. Vinod Khosla convinced McNealy to sell out to the VCs in the 80s - as the story goes, the capital came in after Sun had already established itself so it was unnecessary... Sun was not seeded by KP, etc. Had Mcnealy not done that, he would be much, much wealthier. Anyway after IPO Khosla left and became a partner at KP, where his most recent venture was recently sold to cisco for 7 billion before they even produced their initial product. Khosla may very well be wealthier than McNealy at this point. This is the urban legend anyway - who knows what the reality is.
