Thanks for the recommendation. Coincidentally, I just got catalogues from two nurseries, one you are probably familiar with in the Washington State area, Raintree, and one from the New York Finger Lakes region, Miller. Both sell Mason bees, and Mason bee blocks. I guess they aren't susceptible to the throat mites? Don't know how they would do in this region, I need a scientific name, maybe? As we have very hot summers. I noticed that someone a block away from me has a half dozen honey bee cases in the back yard, someday I hope to see him/her outside and ask about them, it seems awfully pushy to knock on a stranger's door.

You may already have this link, but it's such a nice one I wanted everyone to have it: Knox in Washington State, they sell all kinds of stuff for mason bees, bumblebees, etc. These wonderful insects are indigenous to North America, and don't seem to suffer from the throat mites, I guess because they are solitary, and don't built hives. So I guess this is the answer to "what do we do about pollination"?

Mason Bees: I just HAD to find out more about a bee without a stinger.

Here are some of the sites I found about Mason Bees.

Absolutely fascinating!
