Nothing except the "Compaq" problem-hurting their legacy distribution relationships. The other question is what prevents the writers union from putting up a site with no middlemen or even an aggregation of links to writers own servers. Or a content coop server could be started by emerging artists.

Just the technology, which can be bought. Yet, they aren't doing it yet. I suspect they will, just like Merrill Lynch finally went on-line. But.....FATB has first mover advantage. How much is that worth?? I guess we won't really know until the others get around to it. The thing is, where are these publishers getting the eyeballs from? I suspect FATB has well over 1 million eyeballs right now. You need to look at their alliances and tally up the employee count from the intranets they have been setting up. I see that as a real kicker. And of course, they are open for business to the entire world, but just selling tech books and such probably wasn't a major attraction.
Are you guys aware that they are targeting the legal and medical professions as well? They also sell science and math publications. By the way, I thought of another big one for them that I intend to call Chris Macaskill about right after he gets back from doing his presentations at the show this week. I'll tell you guys what it is next week. I would like to see them get a nice position into this market before I say anything about it. It's right down their alley. Why don't you guys come over to the thread? You are bringing up some good questions and that's what I made it for. techstocks.com
