A.B. Watley Group Inc. (NASDAQ: ABWG) a premier provider of
Online and Institutional trading services through its brokerage firm
A.B. Watley, Inc. (www.abwatley.com) today announced total revenues of
$20,987,613 for the fiscal year, which ended September 30, 1999. This
is an increase of 130% from $9,119,268 during the previous fiscal
year, which ended September 30, 1998. Loss before an extraordinary
item was $624,477, equivalent to $0.09 per share. Net loss was $801,
602, or $0.11 per share, as compared to last year's net loss of
$632,410, equivalent to $0.12 loss per share.

The trading volume of A.B. Watley Group Inc.'s online brokerage
subsidiary, A.B. Watley, Inc. has increased dramatically. For fiscal
1999, A.B. Watley, Inc. had total transactions of 664,595 an increase
of 292% from 169,405 transactions in fiscal 1998.

implementation of our new free Level II service we have experienced
record trade volumes in October, and sequential record volumes for the
first trading week in November. We expect this growth to continue
throughout the quarter, although there may be some market uncertainty

The Company has made increasingly significant investments
throughout fiscal 1999 in human resources, marketing, overseas
expansion and its technological infrastructure. Most notably, the
company has increased its personnel to 123 persons at fiscal year end
as compared to 28 employees a year ago. To ensure the highest level of
customer satisfaction, A.B. Watley is focused on attracting and
securing the highest quality staff. During the fourth fiscal quarter,
A.B. Watley secured senior managers from Charles Schwab, Fleet Quick &
Reilly, Nikko Securities and New York Life.

As part of the Company's investment in broadening and
strengthening its overall technical infrastructure, the Company has
made extensive investments during the fourth fiscal quarter in
customer management systems, computer telephony integration and sales
force automation. The Company also significantly increased its sales
and marketing expenditures in the fourth quarter. "The investments we
have made in both people and technology, particularly in our Sales and
Marketing and Client Services groups, represent our ongoing commitment
to both manage our expansion intelligently and to deliver to our
clients the very best possible service in the online brokerage

FOURTH QUARTER RESULTS

A.B. Watley Group Inc reported total revenues of $6,551,126 for
the fourth quarter of fiscal 1999, which ended September 30th, 1999, a
133% increase over the $2,807,524 revenues for the same period of
fiscal 1998 and 1.4% over the previous quarter. The Company reported a
net loss of $798,210 for the fourth quarter, equivalent to a $0.10
loss per share. This compares to a $18,049 loss, for the same period
of fiscal 1998 and income of $136,167, or $.02 per share for the third
quarter of fiscal 1999, which ended June 30th 1999.

Trading Orders

ust three weeks before its scheduled introduction of an advanced
online stock-trading system, Merrill Lynch & Co. is struggling to
handle customers' trades the old-fashioned way.

For about three hours Tuesday, Merrill Lynch brokers could not process
orders to buy or sell stocks of companies traded on the NASDAQ Stock
Market during that exchange's busiest day ever. Brokers who entered
customers' orders to buy or sell NASDAQ stocks near the 9:30 a.m.
beginning of the trading day in New York did not find out for two hours or
more what prices their customers received.

In some cases, brokers entered orders to sell stocks they thought they had
bought at lower prices earlier in the day, only to find out later that they had
unintentionally sold for less than they had paid.

Some of Merrill's 14,000 brokers complained that the failure was the latest
of several technical problems the firm has had as it prepares for the start
of the new service, Merrill Lynch Direct on Dec. 1. The new system, a
radical departure for Merrill, the nation's biggest brokerage house, will
allow investors to trade stocks electronically without the help of a broker
for $29.95 a trade.

On Monday, brokers reported that the computer workstations they use to
place orders and monitor stock prices and customers' accounts suffered
sporadic failures through most of the day.

"I suspect you've had pretty significant diversion of resources" to ensure
on-time introduction of online trading, said Steve Galbraith, an analyst at
Sanford C. Bernstein & Co. Galbraith said that David Komansky, Merrill's
chairman and chief executive, assured him last week that Merrill would
meet the Dec. 1 deadline, although the system would remain a work in
progress after that date.

The spokeswoman attributed Tuesday's problem to a "normal, scheduled,
upgrade" of a mainframe computer. She said it was unrelated to any other
technical problems and would have no effect on the firm's effort to
introduce online trading next month.

The spokeswoman said that the problem affected several thousand
NASDAQ stock trades from about 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Once the
problem was cleared up, she said, all pending trades were executed.
Customers unhappy about the prices they received for the stocks they
bought or sold "absolutely" will get the prices they would have received
without the delay, she said.


That will be good news to one Merrill broker who watched in agony
Tuesday as an order to sell a NASDAQ stock lingered on his computer
screen, flashing the word "sending" as the stock's price quickly retraced its
morning rise. The stock already had risen more than $5, or 15 percent,
since the broker placed an order to buy several hundred shares of it.

Hoping to capture that profit, the broker entered an order to sell the shares
he believed he had bought. He later learned that the shares had been
bought for about $4 more than he expected and sold for about 25 cents
less, turning an apparently profitable trade into a loser.

That is the type of glitch more commonly associated with online trading
operations, whose systems are more dependent on technology. The
Charles Schwab Corp., the leading electronic brokerage firm, has suffered
through a variety of technical problems in the last few weeks, ranging from
slowdowns of its order-taking systems to a two-hour failure two weeks
ago.

"The reality is everybody's site crashes about once a week," Galbraith said
of online brokerage firms. "That's actually one of the risks these traditional
firms are taking in going on the Internet. When you have an outage now,
it's really public. When Schwab crashes, it's all over the Internet."
