jhg,

I'd be interested in a broadbrush sketch from you on the valuation of CTXS and QCOm,

I'm great at the broad strokes. The wider the brush, the less clarity of the stroke. :)

Seriously, I think Citrix is currently in the high end of its valuation range when comparing the PE to expected growth. It has been in this range many times. As the company's management has continued to deliver revenue and earnings, the analysts have continued to up the estimates. The price of the stock has followed suit but not without a lot of volatility.

As for Qualcomm, the company is in such a state of transition with a forthcoming sale of the handset division and an unnanounced partner that it's especially difficult to value the stock. While the momentum players seem to have taken over, the long-term potential for Qualcomm is so immense that a few years from now we may be wondering why the price was ever as "low" as $300. Perhaps the best opinion I can give that you can choose to agree with or disagree with is that the analysts are in a wonderful position of being able to up their estimates dramatically while at the same time publishing estimates that are extraordinarily low based on everything I understand.

Broad enough? :)
