Maybe it's a case of it being darkest before the dawn - the PMs can rise for unexpected reasons - market collapse, currency problems, etc. Also within the sector there are always some terrific stories - new mines, etc. I believe I own two such and that there are real profits to be made. As for Barrick it has become a blue chip now - the trick is for it to make sure its EPS and cash flow/share grow at a rate of knots - that has to be the company's strategy, and one invests or not on one's assessment of this, not on whether it is a 'hedger' or not. d
