sws2001, Hi! Thank you very much for the clarification of the article about Akamai. The article makes more sense after reading your post. It was a pleasure to read a post from someone with knowledge gained from experience "in the trenches" in the IT world. We're all trying to understand the IT issues here and you are already a valuable asset to this thread. Welcome aboard! Please stick around and help us see through the fog surrounding some of the issues in this field.

Could you give us some perspective on your experience with NTAP and your F760 filer? Did you see a demonstration of it and decide it was a better solution for you? Were you overwhelmingly convinced? Do you see more opportunity for more NTAP filers in your IT environment? When did you decide to buy NTAP stock?

Best,

Duncan

Network Appliance speeds information flow for 3Com
11/05/1999
M2 PRESSWIRE

* New Filers allow UNIX and NT data sharing for over 300 users in UK and Eire

Network Appliance, leading provider of data-access appliances, today announced that 3Com Corporation's Work Group Systems Design (WSD) division has extended its use of Network Appliance's Filer storage devices. The introduction of the new Filer F700s means that 3Com now has over 2 terabytes of information stored on Network Appliance filers. Over 300 engineers can access data on the Filers, which are situated in Hemel Hempstead, Edinburgh, Dublin and Galway.

"We chose Network Appliance Filers for our storage needs as they are extremely easy to manage and highly available to our engineers around the UK and Ireland," commented Paul Schwar, IT Infrastructure Manager, 3Com (WSD). "Bringing down the time to market for products is critical for 3Com's success as a company so we were looking for a solution that provides fast access to all our engineers -- whether on UNIX or Window NT. With the NetApp Filers management is easy, ass. it takes less than a minute to replace drives and is scalable to our needs. Our latest Filers now provide us with real time replication, which is an additional important consideration for 3Com."

3Com purchased its first Network Appliance Filer two years ago. The latest purchase has been a F700s Filer with 25OGb of space, making a total of six Filers in use, containing 2 terabytes of data.

"We are delighted that 3Com has extended its use of our technology", commented Tim Pitcher, UK & Ireland MD, Network Appliance. "3Com recognises that the networking market is undergoing unprecedented change and fast access to data and easy management of storage are vital factors in gaining competitive advantage in this market."
