That's absurd.

Firstly, if DELL or Sun makes a piece of hardware then they own it, regardless of whether the specifications for that piece of hardware is in the public domain or not. If Sun or Microsoft writes an operating system then they own it, regardless of whether the APIs and the hardware/BIOS interface are in the public domain or not.

Secondly, if "no one owns the hardware" ==> "no one should own the OS" then "no one should own the OS" ==> "no one should own the apps". Why is this a false statement?
