Niels, Well you certainly offer a lot of justifcation for your earlier proposal. And I am going to have to think that all through. It certainly would change the industry model. I wonder if Microsoft would be able to make enough money in a service model to make up for the loss of it's OS dominance.
I assume you are advocating that Microsoft WILLINGLY give up it's OS dominance as part of the DOJ settlement. I doubt that FORCING Microsoft to give up the OS, even as part of an anti-trust settlement, would pass constitutional muster. But perhaps that could be overcome by properly compensating Microsoft.
Certainly you have given us reason to think a bit more deeply about the basic industry model, Niels.. thanks for that contribution!
