Asia Internet User Base To Hit 228m In 2005 - Report 11/03/99
TOKYO, JAPAN, 1999 NOV 3 (Newsbytes) -- By Martyn Williams, Newsbytes. The latest survey on Asian Internet growth has predicted a coming massive expansion in the regional user base. The number of users in Asia is expected to expand by 422 percent by 2005 and could jump a further 62 percent in the following year.

The survey, by the London-based Philips Group, says the region currently has 43.6 million Internet users, but this is expected to expand to 228 million by 2005. Further studies by the group have led them to predict this figure could reach as high as 370 million in 2006.

While Japan is expected to remain the leading Asian nation in terms of number of users until 2004, China will become the leader by 2005, said Philips Group. In that year, the country is expected to have more than 85 million users and account for 37.6 percent of the Asian market.
