I'm out of my league here; I'll post a link that indicates that bandwidth use is about 20 Mhz. - but this is not for the usage specified here. I am guessing that WOFDM uses about the same bandwidth in whatever application.

I'm assuming that roughly the same bandwidth would apply to PDA's, which Dr. Zaghloul has indicated would likely operate in the 5 GHz. band - see q and a -

A little confused about the whole home network concept here - if home network is at 2.4 GHz, I would have thought PDAs would be at same.

Once that question is answered one of course wants to get the highest bps/hz efficiency but that desire is counterbalanced by the prospective application, how much one can charge for it the application and the initial and long run incremental cost to deploy a wireless network to service that application.

I dont think that HDR does well in a bits/hertz analysis, however the emphasis by Qualcomm's management was on the low capital costs that would be involved in rolling out HDR. PCS will probably roll-out 1xrtt sometime late next year. This will effectively double voice capacity. At this point, they may have a great deal of unused spectrum....HDR may be a cost effective way to utilize this resource.

Hopefully more details will be forthcoming tomorrow (HDR demo by Qualcomm).

Wireless ... thanks for the detailed answer/discussion from the engineering approach...... I lack rf engineering knowledge, but did understand the principles discussed. Lots of fun physics, I must say!
