Contrary to whats been said here by some(in one diatribe or another), the Europeans are NOT laughing at us.

"The Americans, whom we often accuse of unbridled liberalism, have shown themselves to be the best defenders of a truly free and healthy market: a well regulated market based on a few clear, elementary and inviolable rules."

Yes settle the case is good for everyone. For political reason , the DOJ need to settle the case by year 2000, the election year. For Microsoft, to settle the case early will help the investor to reduce all the uncertainity , and the employee ( We all know that Microsoft's employee had stock option, if the stock did not appreciate, people will leave). Of course if the case can not be settled at this stage , then time will be Microsoft's friend and DOJ's enemy !!!!!!!
