WaveXpress to Demonstrate DTV-Based E-Commerce System at Comdex; Demos By Appointment; Information Available in Wave Systems Booth Business Wire - November 08, 1999 15:41 PRINCETON, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 8, 1999--WaveXpress today announced that it will be demonstrating its system for using digital television (DTV) broadcasts to distribute digital content to consumers with properly equipped PCs at the Comdex trade show in Las Vegas, November 15-19. Appointments for demonstrations are available by contacting WaveXpress at 609-720-4811 or via e-mail at info@wavexpress.com Showgoers can obtain information on the floor from Wave Systems Corp. (Nasdaq: WAVX), at Las Vegas Convention Center booth No.L548. Wave Systems is co-founder of WaveXpress, along with Princeton-based Sarnoff Corporation. "We're well on the way to rolling out the WaveXpress system," said Bruce Campelia, the president of WaveXpress. "We've completed successful preliminary testing with a live broadcast feed, and we're now moving forward to our alpha test and commercial launch. "WaveXpress opens an avenue to e-commerce through the airwaves. Our demo will show how content and service providers deliver information services, software, games, and Internet content in a secure e-commerce structure within DTV broadcasts." WaveXpress will provide secure data broadcast architecture, infrastructure and content services to broadcasters and content providers. The content can be advertising-supported or pay-per-use, and the system also provides for product sales using e-commerce ordering methods. The information is carried in unused bandwidth in DTV broadcasts at speed from 10 to 300 times as fast as a dial-up connection. Users receive the transmissions through DTV tuner cards plugged into their PCs, while a standard modem on a phone line carries back billing and other transactions. The system is based on secure metering and transaction technology developed by Wave Systems, and on DTV technology from Sarnoff. The Fantastic Corporation provides network operation software.
