Kevin- One small point I'd like to add is that a lot of the money fleeing MSFT
will be fueling non-Windows
solutions. This was not case in the old Monopoly days
so a lot of the post monopoly pricing models go out
the Window (sic) when it becomes fashionable to use
thing like Star Office for free rather than Microsoft
Office for $500. I'm sure there are a lot of other
goodies in store for the computer user. I can think
of a few myself if anyone would like to flee in my
direction.

In any case, the Window's "network effect" has made a
huge amount of people wealthy. Now working in reverse
it'll be a different bunch.

Don't like to pile on but this is an unusual turn of
events. The judge, as they say, has told us what is
plain as day.

Kevin- Prior to Friday the VC's ask "Will it affect MSFT?"
After Friday they ask "Will it suck away some of MSFT'S $?"

I think this describes the situation simpler.

Kevin: Thanks for the encouraging words. Looks like you
were right about the price forecast, at least for now.
Anyway, I see the strength I was hoping for in the high 80s
and I'm using the opportunity to lighten up. Despite
selling I of course still hope it's upwards from here
but I have to protect at least some of my ill-gotten gains!
I still suspect we'll see the 70s again before it's all
over with unless MSFT settles; if they settle the stock
will rebound like a super-ball. Interesting short-term
play, isn't it?

Re. taxes, you're forgetting about the fact that I live in
the Golden State, and in my bracket I pay 9.3% of my
income for the privilege. So my tax situation is that for
long-term gains the government walks off with almost 1/3,
while for short-term gains it's closer to 1/2. And we
won't even talk about the alternative minimum tax, into
whose smothering embrace the "other Bill" drove me 7 years
ago.

Cheers!
