That sounds like the same thing I said. Management knew there was a problem, and hoped growth might hide the problem.

How about "Dell management saw an opportunity to contain whisper numbers, thus benefiting their stock holders."?

I do not consider it a benefit to stockholders to deceive the investing public. If DELL wants to contain whisper numbers, they should try giving investors guidance.

Do you feel that Dell should share all concerns about all of the many components in thier PCs with analysts, suppliers and the competition?

It is up to DELL management to balance the issues of competition with the necessity of keeping its owners appraised of important issues. Obviously, this is not an issue that deals with a competitive concern. If it was, then it wouldn't have been disclosed.
