Salomon Smith Barney, part of Citigroup Inc. (NYSE:C - news), said it sees weakness in Microsoft as a buying opportunity.( My thoughts.. I would wait until 88 and 83 is retested and declared vaild)

-- Salomon said that while it expected Microsoft to lose round one of the case, the judge's almost universally negative view of Microsoft was a bit surprising. So far, in appeals court, Microsoft's record is 2-0, and Salomon said it continues to believe that Microsoft is likely to win on appeal. And, by the time the case is resolved several years from now, the technology market may have changed enough to render the case insignificant, Salomon noted.

-- The likelihood of a negotiated settlement has improved markedly, Salomon pointed out, now that it is abundantly clear where the judge stands. That would ignite the price of Microsoft stock. Salomon said it continues to believe that a breakup is unlikely.

-- Salomon's price target for Microsoft is $115.

Banc of America Securities, part of Bank of America Corp. (NYSE:BAC - news), said it was maintaining its ``buy' rating on Microsoft, and was not adjusting its earnings estimates.

-- While the stock will have a pullback as a result of the findings, the fundamental drivers for Microsoft continue to remain intact, Banc of America Securities said.

Microsoft stock was down 3-3/4 at 87-13/16 late Monday morning in trade on Nasdaq.
