Ordinary telephones were used at both ends of all these calls. In most cases, the callers were not aware that their calls were routed by their carriers to ITXC and over the public Internet. A year ago, the fast moving company recorded its first million minute month. Sunday is typically the company's peak day as users around the world call home internationally. Company officials caution that peak load is substantially higher than average runrate and should be viewed as a demonstration of scale and demand but not used to estimate total traffic. "Internet telephony is coming of age," according to Jeff Pulver, founder and chairman of Pulver.com. "Increased call quality is the key to this growth. Now that the proof of concept phase of the industry is over, funding from the successful public offerings of both suppliers and service providers is fueling even faster growth." By using the Internet rather than traditional phone networks for international transport, ITXC can provide wholesale international calls to its carrier and reseller customers at a better price than is possible on traditional phone networks.
