Senate To Decide on Minimum Wage
By CURT ANDERSON AP Tax Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - Republicans and Democrats have agreed to increase the minimum wage by $1, but they remain divided on how quickly it should take effect and on the size of an accompanying business tax relief package.

Votes were set for today in the Senate on whether to boost the $5.15-an-hour wage by a dollar over 28 months, as Republicans want, or over 13 months as Democrats propose. About 11 million workers earn the minimum wage, about half of them teen-agers.(cont)
