NorthPoint Communications to Provide DSL Services to GTE Internetworking
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- NorthPoint Communications (Nasdaq: NPNT - news) today said it will provide digital subscriber line (DSL) services to GTE Internetworking in select major markets across the United States. The agreement with NorthPoint is part of GTE
Internetworking's plans, announced today, to serve Internet and other network service providers with nationwide, DSL-based broadband services.
''It's through relationships with companies like NorthPoint that will help GTE Internetworking continue to be a leader in providing broadband services,'' said Paul R. Gudonis, president of GTE Internetworking. ''We now offer our customers the unique ability to offer DSL on a national basis all through a single source provider.''
''NorthPoint's agreement with GTE Internetworking reflects the tremendous value of NorthPoint's DSL-based network, the most broadly deployed network of its kind in the U.S.,''
said Michael Malaga, NorthPoint's chairman and CEO. ''It is also another sign of the changing and increasingly cooperative relationships between competitive and incumbent local exchange carriers. We look forward to working with GTE Internetworking to deliver the benefits of affordable broadband to more consumers and businesses.''
NorthPoint and GTE Internetworking expect to identify initial markets for service deployment later this year with the launch of service planned for the first quarter of 2000.
NorthPoint DSL uses standard telephone lines to provide access to the Internet at speeds up to 1.5 Mbps. Once limited to dial-up modem connections and speeds of 56 Kbps at best, DSL offers small and midsize businesses, home- based business and telecommuters ''always on'' Internet access at speeds that will support advanced applications once reserved only for large businesses able to afford expensive T1 connections. NorthPoint DSL is available from more than 200 national and regional service provider partners nationwide.
LOOKING GOOD@!

Remember that PAUL ALLEN is a major investor in Northpoint!
He ain't no dummy...and it's so easy to see that dsl is the momo player at the moment...WE ALL WANT IT!
And they are doing an excellent job on the company and keeping it cookin' with all the right players...gorillas in the industry and a huge growth in coverage and we've survived the lock up expiration without any problems except a dip to 24...which was profitable...
