I never liked ariba much really, but that could be my own prejudice. Their management comes from Next... the old "pc" space, and therefore, people like me think they don't know anything. (well - more accurately - they know how to do a whole bunch of whizbang UI things but have no idea what common business transaction sets are, for example).

Otoh, Hoffman walked into commerce one late - he inherited the old distrivision which was not exactly lighting the world on fire - and he had to round up all the R&D people and get the whole thing going starting in 1995 - Ariba had a head start.

I have presided over enough edi junk in my day to believe that making system one talk to system two with the exact same transaction structure is a nightmare. Commerce isn't even attempting that - they will grow faster, for now.
