>>Therein lies the FALLACY of the government's case - it is NOT ABOUT Microsoft damaging Consumers - it has ONLY TO DO with Microsoft Damaging their COMPETITORS - ie., Jimmy "The Whiner" Barksdale and the Netscape defective defectors.<<

I am sure this has been posted but Jim Pournelle has never been a great fan of MS, but his history revision seems much more accurate than the Judge.

Perhaps Cringley should have been asked to write the findings of fact. :))

Paul,

<In essence, it was a Political Trial - and Barksdale, John Doerr, etc., contributed a helluva lot of money to the Clinton Crowd.>

I bet you're right.

Who has more money than Gates? No one.

I bet the other half of the Wintel juggernaut (Intel) is watching this closely and they want to keep the government out of high tech. I believe even Greenspan said things change too rapidly!

It can be a two way street. It may not look that good for Gore and the Democrats when it comes to campaign financing.

Just a thought,

Doug

...and what makes it even more absurd is the Microsoft most probably is beyond its peak in power in the market. Microsoft's ability to harm competitors is much lower than it was even a year ago.

Was it simple naivete that kept Bill from buying his own politicians when he had the chance?

Re: Will the government want Microsoft to FURTHER LOWER the cost of Internet Explorer...

Paul,

Microsoft had about the same number of people working on IE and IIS as they had working on Win 95 and Win NT. They didn't give anything away for free. We all paid dearly for Internet Explorer when we bought computers that came with Windows as the OS whether we liked it or not.

The price for Internet Explorer was included in the price for Windows - and we consumers were given no opportunity to buy the Netscape product instead of the Microsoft product, we could only buy the Netscape product after we had already paid for the Microsoft product.

It's tough to sell a Chevrolet if every licensed driver has already been forced to buy a Ford.

Regards,

Dan
