<I expect this is the answer to all of Via's problems. If S3 indeed has a broad cross licence then via can make CPUs and chipsets galore for all comers.>

I agree that this does solve some of VIA's problems. I think Ken Potashner of SIII deserves the praise for pulling this off. However, for some reason S3 stock price does not represent this belief - yet.

<This effectively makes the UK lawsuit totally dead as by the time it works to the front of the queue the point will be moot. >

IMHO, this is too early to call. VIA may circumvent some of the issues with the SIII deal but the game is far from over. Lawsuits, regardless of the final outcome (which no one knows for sure at this point) have a pretty clear chilling effect - especially when it comes from an entity like Intel.

Bill, re: < This effectively makes the UK lawsuit totally dead as by the time it works to the front of the queue the point will be moot. Down goes Intel, up goes AMD >

IMHO, the Intel lawsuits against Via and it's partners will not only fizzle, they will also leave some unintended effects. The Taiwanese mobo and chipset manufacturers are going to learn bitter, but valuable lessons from these experiences - Intel Chipset shortages and the lawsuits. I'm afraid, this is going to make them even better competitors which may not bode well for Intel and also for AMD in the long term.
