Who owns those patents, Gerald???? I thought it was perfectly clear. DELL owns those patents. They don't prevent the same O/S from running on different PC's. I can buy a copy of Windows 98 and run it on a Packard-Bell or a CPQ or some offshore piece of junk I buy for less than $500. DELL can own patents on power supplies or fans and temperature monitors, but that doesn't change the open spec of the PC. Nice try, but no cigar on this one. Don't be obtuse. DELL owns patents on the specific implementation of that open specification. 5,978,860 System and method for disabling and re-enabling at least one peripheral device in a computer system by masking a device-configuration-space-access-signal with a disable or re-enable signal I'm confused. Is this the Power Supply, the Fan, or a Temperature Monitor? 5,978,856 System and method for reducing latency in layered device driver architectures I'm confused. Is this the Power Supply, the Fan, or a Temperature Monitor? 5,974,573 Method for collecting ECC event-related information during SMM operations I'm confused. Is this the Power Supply, the Fan, or a Temperature Monitor? 5,974,544 Method and controller for defect tracking in a redundant array I'm confused. Is this the Power Supply, the Fan, or a Temperature Monitor? 5,974,497 Computer with cache-line buffers for storing prefetched data for a misaligned memory access I'm confused. Is this the Power Supply, the Fan, or a Temperature Monitor? 5,973,485 Method and apparatus for a multiple stage sequential synchronous regulator I'm confused. Is this the Power Supply, the Fan, or a Temperature Monitor? You said you could make an "exact duplicate" of a DELL PC minus the brand name and there was nothing that DELL could do about it. I just showed you that you cannot. You can come up with a different implementation of the open standard and there's nothing DELL can do about it, unless, of course, you violate one of their many patents while doing so.
