John, I think you mean to say a PUT sold without the simulataneous short SALE of the underlying stock, which is referred to as a "covered put.

John, If you are unaware naked puts transactions are not permitted as a prudent investment for an Ira account. Therefore they are restricted from ira accounts. Thank our goverment for protecting your investment interests. You may of coarse go naked in a taxable (ordinary) account. But you probable know all this.
