BTW, nice to see some healthy exchange of ideas.

GO VOLS!!!

Hows that for a healthy exchange of ideas? <vbg>

Sorry, had to do it. :)

Anyway...even playoffs wouldn't make all people happy. Football could go on up into the spring, and there would still be people unhappy. Fact of life. Another fact? Nothing we say or do will change the way they do things. We all play our best games, and hope for a miracle. There are still 3 weeks left to play, and after this weekend, I say "nothing is impossible".

Good luck with the rest of your season.

E!..just a fun loving fan from the beaUTiful state of Tennessee :)

I agree. A playoff is a must. Polls are based on subjective rankings, which are affected by biases. I think an 8-team playoff would be enough. Usually there aren't any 2-loss teams in the top 8 at the end of the season. Since the overall winner and runner-up would play 3 games in the playoff, maybe the length of the regular season could be shortened by a game or two (get rid of an OOC game).

The way it works now, teams are rewarded too much for losing early and hurt too much for losing late. What if Florida wins over FSU - don't they deserve to be ranked ahead of UT? They won't be. Same with PSU. Nebraska is ranked ahead of them only because they lost earlier. The bowls are a lot of fun but controversy occurs way too often. GT split the national title with Colorado, Washington split with Miami, PSU didn't even split in 1994, Nebraska split with Michigan, and on and on. These teams should be playing each other. Even when there is no split, it appears subjectively to me that sometimes the first place team is weaker than the 3rd or 4th place team, which happened to lose later in the season.

The BCS is better than the previous system only when the top 2 teams are clearly better than the rest. That rarely occurs. There've been about 5 FSU teams in the last 12-13 years that lost early in the season and therefore weren't allowed to play for the national title, but at the end of the season were playing better than anyone. The BCS would make no difference in this situation. A playoff is the only way to solve the problem.

After reviewing the BCS standings, and assessing who plays whom the remainder of the year AND factoring in favorable results in the Big 12 and SEC Champ games.....

We have a faint prayer still. However, we must win next two games with a few style points like Tenn has been doing. Look what it did for them.
