Rudedog,

No need to be snide. I don't disagree with you that
companies that have published O/S's for the pc, to
this date, have IP rights to their systems. My point
started out as a proposal that would solve the problems
MSFT is having, now, with the DOJ and would energize
the PC market for apps IMO. You're not required to agree
with my position. Your point about non-MSFT vendors
of PC O/S's that are still proprietary does present
some problems, but I stand by my opinion that, at least
in principle, that it is a good way to go.
