However, the problem for W-CDMA, if you trust Jacobs expertise on this, is that it does not work. Or at least has yet to be shown that it will work.
He listed two big problems (phones overheat and inefficient use of spectrum) that they are having with no apparent path to a solution.

I think you are misunderstanding what Jacobs was saying. I didn't hear him say anything bad about W-CDMA. The worst I think I have heard him say was it had no advantage over CDMA2000. The overheating problem is with EDGE (and maybe GPRS but that will have to wait until it is sufficiently developed to actually test it).

OK one more...

Yes, agree with what you wrote. However, the problem for W-CDMA, if you trust Jacobs expertise on this, is that it does not work. Or at least has yet to be shown that it will work

IS this sounding like the shoe on the other foot? Trusting a manufacture and claims is a leap of faith. When I see these demostations firsthand or see independent studies, then I'll come to a conclusion, not what a manufacture hypes or says. In general terms, a manufacturers product is always better and works better than the other guys. What do you expect him to say, it's worse or just as good?

Was Dr. J being independent? No, he was demostrating his product, thus naturally it is the best thing since sliced bread and sex. Is what he saying true or totally truthful? At this time I don't have an answer one way or the other.
