Microsoft ruling boosts Corel stock
Shares surge on speculation Linux will gain real foothold
...Corel may also indirectly benefit from investor interest in Linux-based servers following the explosive market embrace of Cobalt Networks, a California-maker of low-cost office servers, which closed at $140 U.S. yesterday, or 538 per cent higher than its issue price last week.

Corel owns 25 per cent of Rebel.com, an Ottawa-based company with a similar product also based on the Linux operating system, which is now seeking venture capital financing and could go public in the future.

Corel chief executive officer Michael Cowpland said, "It certainly shows that Rebel.com is in the right market space."

He said that another Corel spin-off, Graphon Corp., is also doing well and should yield benefits for his company.
