John,

Sun isnt going to retreat on Storage and end up where HP was a year ago - relying upon EMC and leaving billions of dollars on the table for them. Sun is vertically integrated in every respect, Operating System, Hardware, Microprocessor - there is very compelling reasons that Sun continue to develop storage solutions since this market is growing extre mely fast and Sun can link hardware and software to an Intelligent Storage Area Network integrating Java, Jini (i.e - a storage array is a jini device that appears spontaneously on the SAN).

EMC Symetrix was a better product for a while but Sun can offer a more compelling story with integrated storage and server hardware, plus a one stop shopping and support experience. EMC's market cap btw isnt too far off from SUNW - I think EMC is very richly valued (or perhaps SUNW is too undervalued!!)
