The biggest question is will carriers jump on it and make it happen soon or dink around counting all the cash they are raking in from voice services?

This is where WCOM buying Sprint, and thereby gaining control of Sprint PCS, becomes interesting. WCOM is a data play. Voice is an add on to them. HDR over the Sprint PCS would give them a powerful (the most powerful?) play in mobile wireless data. I think the incentive will be there for WCOM.

And then Bell Atlantic, when they get permission to roll out long distance, together with Bell/Vodaphone wireless, will not be able to afford WCOM getting out too far ahead. Notice how quickly Bell/Vodaphone came out with a competing Internet offer to PCS.

I think the demand will be there (is there?).
