Another thought for the dad for the execs at IATV, no joke. I think IATV should read into this. Hard to explain why, I have less time on my hands these days, two jobs. BC SCGgeocities.com -------------------------------------- Speedy Web Access For Set-Top Surfers -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA, U.S.A., Newsbytes via NewsEdge Corporation : A company that operates a portal for usersof Internet-connected set-top television boxes says it can help surfers get to Websites faster with their TV remote control unit than they could with a keyboard. Set-Top.com, a Website which serves as a guide to other Websites that work well on the television displays for WebTV users or on Net-connected game machines such as Sega's Dreamcast, is selling handheld remote controls that automatically link users to a database of easy-to-remember aliases for popular Web addresses. "People can now access Web entertainment literally lying down on the couch in front of their home TV sets," company President Jamison Ching told Newsbytes. Ching said Set-Top.com's $29.95 Universal Remote Control is connected to the database of Web-address aliases - called HyperCodes - his company maintains. With the alpha-numeric pairings of a telephone keypad, the remote control allows WebTV users to spell out the simple HyperCode words. For example, Ching said, "CNN" is "155." Through the link to the Set-Top.com HyperCode database, punching in those numbers will take users to the CNN.com Website. What's more, he said, similar keystrokes will tune televisions to the channels of Web companies - like CNN - with a broadcast presence. Ching said his company is selling HyperCode names to companies that want to make their Websites east to find. "We want to be the RealNames for WebTV, or a mini-InterNic," he said. RealNames Corp. maintains a database for users of PC browsers that enables them to type brief keywords to find Websites. InterNic was the long-time registrar for commercial domain names. "Millions of dollars have been spent to make brands such as HBO, ESPN, and MTV household names," said Set-Top.com's co-founder Tom Romero. " Viewers now only need to spell out the brand name to seamlessly access either the Web site or TV channels of these highly-recognized content providers."
